I draw, I cook, I write, and I photograph, my name is zkira and I would like for all to get to know me as more than just a deviantArt artist. But also as the person who made the artist I am.
What is art?
"skill acquired by experience, study, or observation" or maybe "the conscious use of skill and creative imagination especially in the production of aesthetic objects" (as defined by www.merriam-webster.com). But what truly is art? To me it is the conscious or unconscious production of personal emotions, memories, events and transforming what is only viewed through the mind into concrete, physical form.
How I came in contact with art.
Actually it was my mum who started this crazed love of mine. It all began when I was four years old, and completely obsessed over dinosaurs, especially the movie The Land Before Time, and I asked my mum to please draw me the baby long-neck. At the time my mum didn't know about her artistic talents, but tried to draw my favourite dinosaur anyways (on the kitchen linoleum at my grandparents place, may I mention). She succeeded and now, years later, she is making her own paintings and selling them. How does this connect to my own art? Well, once my mom discovered her talent she decided to enroll her extremely quiet and extremely shy daughter in the rowdy and rambunctious, kid's art lessons offered at a nearby house in my childhood neighborhood. I must admit I didn't appreciate being left alone for two hours in an unknown house with a bunch of loud mouthed kids, but I did like doing art! And now, I keep working on art, only now I don't draw dinosaurs as much as before.
I cook...
Cooking, one of my many lovers. Not only did I grow up in a kitchen, but I grew into it. Both my parents are brilliant cooks, not as professionals though (even though they've always wished of owning their own restaurant), but in reality I owe all my interest in cooking in Beatrice. Beatrice, or Bea as I always called her, had been my grandparents cook when I was in my toddler years, Bea was a moody, and robust lady who didn't like kids, enough to say that I was no exception, she found me rather an annoyance in her kingdom (the kitchen).
But years later my grandparent moved to the United States, (at the time I was living in my home-country, Honduras) and Bea came to work with my family. Now I was 12, and much less annoying, so much less that I was allowed to stick around the kitchen and help myself to conversation with the most amazing cook I have ever met. She eventually got to trusting me with chopping her ingredients, and then I moved up to learning her desert recipes by heart.
I wish to one day pursue a career in the culinary arts business, I do not expect fame, nor fortune. All I want is to find that I am making some happy, I want my simple chicken soup to make someone smile while remembering good days at their aunt's house, I want my delicate crepes to transport the mind to a moment in France.
